These past few days, a lot has been happening here in the Philippines, especially on the political side of things. Many of these issues have been going on for quite some time now, but some of the recent developments feel almost absurd. Even I find myself wondering how we’ve reached this point.
Fake news continues to spread everywhere, and it feels like the battle against misinformation is at its worst. Filipinos seem more divided than ever. Sometimes, when you scroll through the comments section, you can’t help but feel disappointed. You start asking yourself, “How can people say these things to one another?”
To be honest, I can’t even stop myself from commenting sometimes because some of the things I see are just that unbelievable.
You might be wondering why I’m talking about this again. Maybe it’s because I’ve been carrying a lot of thoughts lately. Maybe it’s because I can’t sleep. Or maybe it’s because I genuinely care about the direction we’re heading as a people.
But beyond politics, fake news, and all the noise online, what I really want to say is this:
I hope each and every one of us can look at ourselves in the mirror and honestly say that we’re proud of who we’ve become. That we’re proud of the choices we make every day. That we’re living authentically, treating others with decency, and making decisions with intention rather than simply following whatever appears on our screens.
The world already has enough noise. Maybe what we need more of is self-reflection.
At the end of the day, before we point fingers at anyone else, I hope we can all ask ourselves: Am I proud of the person I am becoming?
I don’t know. Maybe I’m just overthinking again.
Or maybe I’m just hoping I’m making sense.
